Hamlet
Hamlet is the son of the dead king of Denmark. One night he met a father's ghost at Elsinor Castle. The ghost told him the truth about his death. But to be sure Hamlet pretends madness and tests a ghost's story by having a play about his father's murder. The play is acted in front of the new king - Hamlet's uncle Claudius who murdered his father and married his mother.
Claudius sent Hamlet to England to have him killed there. But Hamlet returns and visits Ophelia. She loves him but they can't show their love because of Hamlet's plans. Claudius sends Leartes, Ophelia's brother, to fight with Hamlet. Hamlet is wounded by Leartes' poisoned sword. Before he dies, he stabs Claudius. Hamlet's mother dies too. She drank poisoned wine which Claudius prepared for Hamlet.
I think, it's the tragedy about an honest, strong and responsible man who isn't able to punish his father's killer without a having a clear proof. It's about hesitation and sufference.
Švejk
Josef Švejk is very popular and mysterious person. He was born in Prague, Vinohrady sometime between 1905 - 1908. We know nothing about his family but we know that he was a dealer of stolen dogs in his civilian life before he joined the army. He was a fat looking man in uniform always with his pipe and with great sense of humour.
The character of Josef Švejk is very strange. Through possibly-feigned idiocy or incompetence he repeatedly manages to frustrate military authority and expose its stupidity in a form of passive resistence.
I like Švejk very much. I think, he has become the Czech national personification.
